A pan of gold from Livingstone Creek

I believe the average size of gold nuggets from Livingstone Creek and the Atlin area are usually larger than those from the Klondike goldfields.

I believe the average size of gold nuggets from Livingstone Creek and the Atlin area are usually larger than those from the Klondike goldfields.

I met miners years ago who worked in the Livingstone area in the recent past; one or two even worked there from the 1930s. They were always interesting individuals. I’m interested in anything that helps me tell a story, like information in old letters, photographs, early postcards, etc. I collect old and recent newspaper clippings by the thousands.

For the rest of my life I want to tell stories using my artwork, photographs and collectables, including old newspaper and magazine articles like the following clipping from the Dawson Weekly News of August 13, 1909:

The clipping has no relation, in a sense, to our heading and photograph of gold in a gold pan, but I thought it was intriguing in its own way.

The writing on the pan says, “A SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLAR CLEAN UP… LARGE NUGGET $470.00.”

What was the price of gold back when the photo was taken? What would the value of the pan of gold be worth today?
