Firebringer brings heat to Black Box Theatre in Whitehorse’s Riverdale

Prehistoric comedy musical runs until April 7

Firebringer is currently bringing the heat to the Heart of Riverdale Community Centre’s Black Box Theatre.

Candlestick Theatre Society is presenting the musical by StarKid Productions until the end of the weekend.

Directed by Gabriel Hopkins, the show takes the audience to a world consisting of “catchy tunes, hilarious moments and larger-than-life characters,” according to a press release.

The announcement of the play’s run at the theatre describes the show taking viewers through the trials of prehistoric life under the leadership of Jemilla, the peacemaker. One member of the tribe of cave-peoples doesn’t fit in and is often trying to invent things to make life easier for herself.

“While out hatching her latest scheme, Zazzalil stumbles upon the most important discovery in history,” reads the announcement, adding that it’s one that will pit her tribe against woolly mammoths and saber-toothed tigers and “change the world forever.”

The play, first held in Chicago in 2016, is based on music and lyrics by Meredith Stepien and Mark Swiderski and a book by Nick Lang, Matt Lang and Brian Holden.

The comedy musical features the talents of Ella Laliberty, Ezra Baker, Cameron Greer, Paisley Schroeder, Max McLarnon, Lin Aschbacher, Casey Delaurier, Nolan Floyd, Halia Pealow, Sydney Synclair, Asher Johnson and Gabriel Hopkins.

Showtimes run at 8 p.m. from April 3 to April 7.
