Sessford gains World Cup experience

Yukon’s Daniel Sessford competed in his second World Cup mountain bike race yesterday in Mont Sainte Anne, Quebec.

Yukon’s Daniel Sessford competed in his second World Cup mountain bike race yesterday in Mont Sainte Anne, Quebec.

The course had two major climbs, a third smaller climb, and a very fast single-track climb near the finish.

“As with all World Cups, the pace started out super fast, with everyone trying to make it to the first climb and single track at the front, to avoid bottlenecking,” said Sessford via e-mail.

“I started in 94th position out of 134 racers and, once again, I had the speed to move up to the front pack, but I was lacking the endurance to maintain it. I eventually finished in 71st position.”

Sessford’s next race will be the Canadian National Championships, July 15-16 at Sun Peaks in Kamloops, BC.

“I’m hoping that everything will come together, as it’s the most important race of the year,” he said.
