Five straight wins landed Kandice’s Corsairs the 2012 Whitehorse Motors Ladies Bonspiel title at the Whitehorse Curling Club on Sunday.

The team, headed by Kandice Braga, finished first out of 14 teams in the skins format bonspiel.

“We all curled really well and it was just a lot of fun,” said Braga. “We had a great time.

“It was a lot of fun, it was well run. It was a different scoring system and it let new curlers play.”

Playing with Braga on the new team were Laini Klassen and Helen Strong.

“We were short a player, so we had two people sub in for us: Ladene Shaw and Cheryl Meger,” said Braga.

Strong will be representing the Yukon at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship next week in Montreal.

The Corsairs finished with 51 points, two points up from Leslie Grant’s team, Grant’s Galaxy, in second place.

Third place saw a two-way tie, decided by a draw to the button.

Tamar Vandenberghe, with third Sheila Stockton, second Karen Archbell and lead Tess Lawrence, had the better shot to take third. Ellen Johnson’s team was pushed into fourth.
