Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse defended their gold from 2010 on Wednesday, racing to the top time in the two-woman bobsleigh. Humphries and Moyse became the first Canadian woman to defend her Olympic gold in an event since speed skater Catriona Le May Doan in 2002.
Humphries and Moyse finished ahead of two American teams, and their gold – Canada's fifth of the Games – bumped their country up to 18 overall, now five back of the United States's 23.
(Norway has 20 total medals, and the Netherlands and Russia both have 22.)
"I know, from Vancouver, chances are it'll settle in later tonight when we head back to the Village," Humphries told CBC after their win. "At the end of the day, we knew it was possible. Heather and I, again, we're a strong team.
"Going into these four runs, I wouldn't want anybody else with me... History is meant to be broken, and Heather and I have done it here tonight, and hopefully look forward to breaking it some more."
Humphries is from Calgary, Alberta and Moyse is from Summerside, PEI.
