Bear spray used as weapon in armed robbery

Male suspect robs store of cash, electronic equipment

A thief used a large can of bear spray as a weapon to steal cellphones and electronic tablets from a Rogers Plus store Sunday evening.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the store located in the 2600-block of Quadra St. The man entered, brandishing the bear spray, and ordered two employees into the back room to open a safe.

The suspect emptied out the safe of electronic merchandise, then emptied the cash register of its money.

He fled in an older model white, four-door sedan car.

The suspect is described as a white man, in his late 30s to early 40s, and approximately 5’8” tall. He was wearing a green Tilley-style hat, dark sunglasses, a green sweater and jeans.

The bear spray was not discharged, and neither of the employees was physically injured during the robbery.
