The Lights of Life season has returned to our Yukon communities, with many organizations around the territory hosting trees that honour the lives of loved ones that Yukoners are missing at this time of year.
Everyone is invited to gather on Thursday, December 12th at noon for the Opening Ceremony of the 34th annual Lights of Life event in the Elijah Smith Building on Main Street. All are welcome at this gentle ritual, a well-loved Yukon tradition that includes the beautiful voices of the Persephone Singers.
Christmas can be a difficult time when you are grieving the loss of a loved one. Taking a few moments in the busy holiday season to hang a Lights of Life tag in memory of a loved one who has died can offer some comfort.
The display has several Lights of Life trees, including a Child Tree to remember children who have died, or for children to hang a tag for loved ones who have died. There is also a Pet Tree to honour our beloved pet companions.
These trees will be available until the morning of Thursday, Dec. 19. Hospice volunteers will sit near the trees to offer a listening ear.
Lights of Life trees are also up at many other locations in Whitehorse and rural Yukon. Please check our website for a full list of Lights of Life tree locations (www.hospiceyukon.net) or phone us for more information at (867) 667-7429.
Lights of Life is made possible by the generosity of volunteers and local business people who contribute time and resources to this community gathering. We are also grateful to the Yukon government for ongoing operational funding. Thank you all for your support.
Sincerely,
