This year, from May 19 to 23, Yukoners will celebrate Yukon Mining and Geology Week. It's an event in which Yukon mining companies come together, standing shoulder to shoulder with industry associations and the territorial government departments that regulate them, to reflect upon and recognize all that the territory’s responsible mineral exploration and development industry contributes to the territory.

Yukon Mining and Geology Week has been commemorated in various ways for well over a decade as a way to share industry stories, successes and setbacks with the Yukon public. This year’s activities, organized in partnership by Yukon Women in Mining and the Yukon Chamber of Mines, are wide ranging and being presented to offer maximum inclusivity.

This year’s events include: a lunch and learn at the Centre for Northern Innovation and Mining at Yukon University; a walking tour of the Whitehorse Copper Belt guided by the Yukon Geology Survey on the evening of May 21; and the annual Discovery Camp being held this year at the Canada Games Centre in Whitehorse on May 23.

All events are free and everyone is welcome. For more information, please find the Yukon Chamber of Mines on Facebook.

These activities are intended to help Yukoners better understand responsible exploration and mining and the Yukoners who lead it. And to think about what our lives would look like without this key private sector contributor.

We hope to see Yukoners there.

Before it’s yours, it’s mined.

Sincerely,

Jonas J. Smith
