With great sadness the family of Wayne Smyth announce his passing on November 7th, in Whitehorse, Yukon at age 67 after losing his battle with cancer.
Wayne was born in Ottawa, Ontario but lived most of his life in Whitehorse. He was a dedicated public servant who served in the Edmonton Police Service, Alberta Highway Patrol, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canada Border Services Agency, and the Yukon Government, but ended his long career as a fire fighter in the Whitehorse Fire Department as a Deputy Fire Marshal and fire investigator. All his jobs were dedicated to the protection and safety of the public.
Wayne was an avid marathon runner, a drummer for several local bands, including the Midnight Sun Pipe Band and Hank Karr's band, and he was passionate about horses and riding.
Wayne will be sorely missed by his children, Renee(John) Beecher and their children Brooklynne, Luke and Austin, son Alden Smyth, brother Steven (Julie), nephew Andrew, and his former wife Colleen Brunet. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Evelyn and his brother Randy.
A memorial service for Wayne is being planned for a later date.
