September 16, 1948 - September 14, 2024
On September 14, 2024, Stephen Kendall of Whitehorse, Yukon died in St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, BC after a brief illness. His death came as a surprise to his many friends in the Whitehorse and Atlin areas.
Born in Northhampton, Great Britain, baby Stephen was adopted by Shelagh and Richard Kendall. In 1961, the family, including a younger sister, Judy, moved to Canada.
In the early 1970s, Stephen came north. He worked in fire towers, at airport control towers, as a driver of taxis, mini-buses, tourist buses and the Yukon Wildlife Preserve bus. He also worked at the Visitor Reception Centre. His final job, as a school bus driver, suited him well.
His sister, Judy, said: "Stephen was always a very active young man who was always ready to take on new adventures, sometimes before thinking it through. I think this was a trait that he never completely grew out of, part of the character we loved about him."
We are saddened to have to say goodbye to our friend. He had a big heart, and we will always remember him for his graciousness to all.
There will be a party to celebrate Stephen's life. If you want to be notified, email wkrangle@gmail.com.
