January 29, 1934 - December 8, 2017
Sheila Murphy passed away in Victoria, B.C. December 8, 2017 with family by her side. Born in Galahad, Alberta on January 29, 1934, she travelled up north to the Yukon where she met and married husband Harry in 1956. Sheila and Harry resided in Whitehorse, Yukon where they raised their family.

Sheila taught kindergarten at Selkirk Elementary during the 1970's and during that time studied and received her Bachelor of Education degree. In 1981, after 24 years in the North, Sheila and Harry left the Yukon to undertake a new challenge in Ottawa for 6 years, representing the Yukon government, meeting dignitaries from all over the world. Sheila and Harry made Victoria their permanent retirement home in 1989. Sheila was raised in a Catholic family of 11 children, her spunk and tenacity were among her many admirable qualities. She reserved her most important lessons for her children: to love yourself so you can love and respect others and to stay as positive as possible. The Lord blessed Sheila with a good life and while she struggled in the final year and half, she still maintained that same positive attitude.

Sheila has left her struggles behind and is in a better place now, in God's hands. Although we will miss her love, her voice, conversations and motherly advice, she remains in our hearts and our memories.

Sheila was predeceased by her husband Harry, daughter Sharon, parents Francis and Kathryn; brothers Jim, Pat, Austin, Tommy; sisters Jean, Theresa, Geraldine.

Sheila leaves to mourn: Son Kevin; Daughters Donna, Lori (Greg) and Kerry; grandchildren Brendan, Trevor, Darren, Michael, Heather, Sarah and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass was said December 16, 2017 in Victoria, B.C. Sheila will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, Edmonton beside husband Harry on July 13, 2018.

A celebration of life to follow at St. Andrews Centre, 12720-111 Avenue NW Edmonton 11:30 am.
