Ryan James McClean lost his long battle with kidney disease due to a lung infection at VGH at the age of 45. He was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease when he was just a feisty 11 year old living in Watson Lake. Ryan had two kidney transplants; the first when he was 12 that only lasted 5 years and the another just 2 1/2 years ago. He endured a life of dialysis with never-ending medical appointments and treatments, and never once complained about his lot in life.
Ryan loved to cook and enjoyed watching the cooking channel and getting ideas and recipes to create simple, but delicious meals. For a single guy he had an envious pantry of sauces, herbs and spices and a coveted kitchen knife collection.
He loved watching hockey with his buddy Cory Jamieson and loved his Edmonton Oilers, although would switch to any Canadian team left in the play-offs.
Ryan is survived by his loving mother Carmen Komish, his step-dad Mark Robinson, both of Whitehorse, his biological father Gar McClean (Cheryl), and his brother Graham McClean (Krissy) of Summerland, BC.
A Celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Kidney Foundation, BC/YT branch can be made in his name.
