Roderick James MacNeill

July 29, 1970 – June 13, 2023
In loving memory ~
It’s with heavy hearts and great sadness, the family of Rod MacNeill announces his unexpected passing in Courtney, B.C., on June 13, 2023, at age 52.
Rod leaves behind his loving family. He is survived by his two daughters, Settea (children Kanon and Amiera) and Meaghan. He also leaves behind his mother Eileen MacNeill (father Jock – deceased); brother Jack and his wife, Monika; sister Heather; sister Claudette (Cleo) and her husband Eric; as well as eight nieces and nephews, Olivia (Gage), Nigel, Alexander, Scott (Myriam), Kailey, Kayden and Pio (Scott & Myriam’s son).
Rod was born on July 29, 1970, in Regina, Saskatchewan, and was a content, happy child. As a young man, Rod was a well-accomplished athlete, winning a number of provincial and national cross-country ski races and raced in both triathlons and cycling races. He was a capable, academic student that applied his intelligence and determination to the construction industry. He was recognized in his industry as a meticulous, hard-working carpenter (journeyman) that ‘lived’ the trade. He had a mischievous sense of humour and uncanny recall for trivia and historical events. He loved animals, which in turn were drawn to him, especially cats and family dogs. He loved the outdoors and in particular, the wilderness of the Yukon.
Rod took pride in being a father and a grandfather. He loved his two daughters, and two grandchildren very much, even though he was not able to be around them, as much as he had hoped. He had developed numerous relationships throughout his life that were meaningful intimate, and loving. He will be greatly missed by his Yukon family, B.C., family, and numerous friends he had throughout Canada, many of them, speaking of him as a ‘gentle and kind man’. He will forever live on through his daughters and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the many friends and extended family near and far that have reached out to honour Rod’s passing.
A small family gathering to celebrate his life will occur sometime during the summer of 2023. Obituary
