February 5, 1935 - June 3, 2021
We are saddened to share that Bob Studds passed away in his sleep in the early hours of June 3rd, 2021 at Whistle Bend Place, Whitehorse, Yukon. Bob is lovingly remembered by his daughter Elizabeth (Darcy) Studds, his grandsons Ben, Nykolas and Matthew, his sister Linda and his brother Donald, niece Patty, and by his many friends and former colleagues, as well as his caregivers.
Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Marjorie, and his wife, Barbara, his parents and his brother Larry.
Bob was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on February 5th, 1935 to Ellen Ferguson and Alfred Studds.
After graduating from high school in Lloydminster in 1953, Bob worked in the oil industry in Saskatchewan and Alberta. He trained as a Conservation Officer in Prince Albert, SK in 1956 and worked as a CO in northern Saskatchewan for a time.
In October of 1958 he enrolled as a Flight Cadet, pilot-in-training, with the Royal Canadian Air Force at Penhold, AB. However, he returned to the oil industry in mid-1959 and gravitated towards surveying, training and working in this field until 1968. During this period he worked for Midwest Surveys and Engineering (B.C.) Ltd. in northern BC and with Spartan Air Services of Ottawa, ON.
In 1968, surveying brought Bob to the Yukon, and ultimately to Faro, YT where in 1970 he became the local Resource Management Officer (RMO) with DIAND.
There Bob met Barb Whittington, the Faro public health nurse, and they were married in 1971. Their daughter Marjorie Joyce was born while they lived in Faro. Bob was the RMO at Teslin from 1975 to 1985 and while in Teslin, Bob and Barb adopted Elizabeth Jane.
Bob continued his career with DIAND as the Laberge-Whitehorse district RMO from September 1985 to 1988, then moved on to the position of Air Photo Interpreter. Bob retired from DIAND in February 1997. He stayed active bicycling around town for coffee with friends at several coffee shops.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed life in the Yukon, especially camping with his girls, and was always happy to reminisce about various events of his life and travels with Barb to visit family in England and New Zealand. He will be much missed by all who knew him.
His family expresses its thanks and appreciation to Dr. Sue Alton and the staff at Whistle Bend Place for their care of Bob, and especially to his friend and home support worker, Kelly Kushniruk.
