The family of Robert Dale Kinney are saddened to share the news of his passing at the age of 74 on March 20, 2023.
Dale was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, the youngest of ten siblings. He moved to Whitehorse in 1970 and commenced employment as a brakeman with the White Pass Railway.
Until closure of the railroad in 1982 Dale was successful in advancing to conductor and engineer. One of his proudest moments was when he was the engineer of the old 73 Steam Engine.
In early 1972 Dale met Terry King and they were married later that year. Together they raised three sons who kept Dale happily involved in the various sports in which they participated, and eventually provided cheap labour and support for him with 3D Transport.
After the closure of the railroad Dale was the successful bidder for the Canada Post contract for the mail delivery to Faro & Ross River. 3D Transport was born.
Several years later Dale was the successful bidder for the Canada Post contract for services to Dawson City, Mayo and all points between. Due to his willingness to assist people requesting him to bring goods from Whitehorse, he purchased a larger vehicle and started hauling freight and mail with the assistance of his oldest son David.
In 2003 Dale retired and enjoyed having coffee with his friends. You could always find him at Tim Hortons, A&W or MacDonalds.
Dale was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years Terry, and their sons David, Darren and Ryan (Janine), three grandchildren who brought great joy in the last few years, Noah, Payten and Saul, brother Brian (Whitehorse) and sister Yvonne (Calgary).
In honoring Dale's request there will be no service.
