December 15, 1946 - October 18, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas Sawrenko.
Nicholas was born on December 15th 1946 in Aklavik NWT. He was the second of twelve children born to Jack and Maria Sawrenko. The family left Aklavik when Nick was 4 to relocate to Whitehorse, Yukon. He spent the next few years living in various towns in the Yukon before moving to Dawson City when he was 12. One of his jobs while in Dawson was working on the dredges. Nick went on to become a Red Seal Journeymen and was as an owner/operator of Unique Contracting and worked on many different projects both in the Yukon and NWT.
Nick met Michelle Minet while in Dawson and together they had their son Ryan.
Nick will always be remembered for his great sense of humour he loved a good joke and never took life too seriously. He spent a number of years down in BC but never forgot his roots in the Yukon. He was very close to his mother, Maria, and made sure to visit her whenever he was in Whitehorse.
Nick decided to make Dawson City his home in 2009. He enjoyed doing a little prospecting, fishing, and gambling at Gerties.
He leaves to mourn his passing: brothers, Sergius (Gwen) and Ivan. sisters, Freida ( Noel) and Irene. Son, Ryan, and grandsons Ryder and Riyver, along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be no service at Nicks request. He will be cremated and his ashes spread at a later date by his son.
