In Loving Memory ~
Michael was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, and was deeply loved by his late Mother, Christine Bennett. He met life with enthusiasm, and a bright twinkle in his eye. He was loved and supported by many, and was fiercely loyal to those he cared for, especially his sister Sarah.
Michael liked to push the limits of life, and often those around him. He connected easily with others with his mischievous grin and ability to find humour in any situation. He loved laughing and making others smile. Mikey had a way of wrapping himself around your heart, making it hard to say no to him or even be mad at him for long.
Michael was not a fan of staying still. He had no problem walking wherever he needed to go, and when it came to sports, he was competitive and played hard. He pushed himself at the gym and snowboarding, and always managed to make tricky shots in pool while teasing his opponent.
He tried out for the 2018 Arctic Winter Games in table tennis and was invited to train with the squad.
Michael was adventurous and thrived when he was out on the land, fishing and hunting. He was athletic and often fearless, qualities which eventually lead him to discover Wildland Firefighting. There he found a sense of purpose and, most importantly, belonging. He excelled at fire fighting and was looking forward to returning to it this summer, as it kept him grounded, and allowed him to push his limits and to imagine his future.
Michael is survived by his sisters Sarah Anne Horton, Samantha Bennett and Lisa-Marie Bedi, and his brothers Donald Bennett and Raymond Windum.
