December 22, 1940 - December 22, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Lyle McNaughton Fisher. Mickey passed away on December 22, 2021 which was his 81st birthday.
Mickey lived a long and colorful life. Born on December 22, 1940 in Bearberry Alberta to Eunice and George Fisher. He moved to Watson Lake as a teenager to join his sister Shirley Charchuk. In Watson Lake he worked for Yukon Electric, ran a taxi company and later became the town manager.
Mickey started a family in Watson Lake, he married Marjorie Cole and had two daughters, Adrian and Lila. He built a log home and a fly-in cabin on Meister Lake where he and his family would go for fishing and camping. Mickey and his family moved to Whitehorse in 1982.
Mickey had the honour of serving the electoral district of Lake Laberge from 1992 to 1996 as the Yukon Party Member of the Legislative Assembly. He was appointed to John Ostashek's Cabinet on November 7, 1992 and proudly served as Minister of the Departments of Renewable Resources, Community and Transportation Services, Yukon Housing Corporation, Economic Development, and Health and Social Services.
Throughout his life, he owned and operated several small businesses. Mickey and Marjie operated a small market garden, and a wood cutting business. He and Marjie moved to Stewart BC, and then to Faro before relocating to Whitehorse after Marjie's passing on April 15th, 2010.
Mickey was a proud grandfather to Jamie and Jacob Nickel. Mickey is predeceased by wife Marjie, and daughter, Adrian Fisher.
