January 13, 1938 - May 15, 2021
Louise was born in Birch River, Manitoba on January 13, 1938. Her parents, Mike and Evelyn Walkoski, raised her and her two brothers and sister on a farm near Birch River. Eventually, Louise's family moved to Drayton Valley Alberta, where Mike found work and a chance for a better life.
In her early twenties, Louise moved to the small town of Viking Alberta and enrolled in a nursing program where she trained as a nurse at the local hospital. She met Joe Volf and they were married in 1963.
In 1966, Joe had an offer for a better employment opportunity, and moved to Elsa Yukon to make a new life for his family. Louise and their three young boys Harvey, Joey and Kevin followed shortly after. Their daughter Michelle was born in Yukon in 1970. The family lived in the small mining town of Elsa and Joe and Louise operated the general store for United Keno Hill Mines for thirty years.
When the Elsa mine closed down, Louise and Joe moved to the nearby town of Mayo where Louise enjoyed working in the general store for many years after she "retired".
Their last journey was to Leduc Alberta in 2014 to be closer to family and medical care.
Louise passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021 in Edmonton Alberta.
Louise worked hard and stayed active. She was an avid curler on her time off from raising kids and working. She liked to stay in shape and would be found walking or skiing at the family cabin or picking berries in the fall. She often participated in the CNIB Walk-a-Thon.
She was a graceful, gentle woman who was always eager to help. She had many friends and was active in the Catholic church. Louise had a great sense of humor and was a joy to be with. She was a kind spirit in the community and with coworkers.
Louise was predeceased by her husband Josef and their son Kevin. She will be greatly missed by her children Harvey, Joseph, Michelle and their families. A wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and friend, she was loved.
Louise was laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery, Drayton Valley Alberta on May 21, 2021.
