With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jean McLearn Leary of Altamont Manitoba.
Born and raised in the coal mining town of Cadomin Alberta, Jean learned to be resourceful, resilient and practical - traits she carried throughout her life.
She joined the RCAF in 1952 and spent four years as a Radar Mechanic. She then went on to train as a nurse at Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton.
In 1958, after graduating as an R.N., Jean married Bryson (Al) Leary whom she had met on a blind date. Together they forged a life filled with adventure in Northern Alberta and the Yukon where she raised her family.
Jean retired from nursing in 1988 and moved with Bryson to his hometown of Altamont. Jean loved crib, softball, curling, golf, her garden and any kind of lemon dessert. She was thrilled to become a Grandma and took great pleasure in the fact that they were all boys!
Jean was predeceased by her parents Ross and Ruby Peters, her siblings, Harrison, Linn, Blanche, Delbert and Ellis and by her loving husband of almost 45 years, Bryson.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her sons, Bill (Maggie) and Jim (Janet) and her grandsons Bryan, Adam, Stuart and Jared. Jean also leaves her brother-in-law Carl Leary (Marilyn), sisters-in-law Ina Bramadat and Elsie Leary as well as many nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to Jean's Altamont "family": Fern, Agnes, Adrian, Victor, George and Louis Grenier. We will be forever grateful for your love and devotion to Mom over the years. You enabled her to remain in the home she loved, which was always her wish.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Somerset Hospital, Boundary Trails Health Centre in Morden and the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg for their compassion and high level of care during Jean's brief illness.
Jean's ashes will be interred next to Bryson in the Yukon Order of Pioneers Cemetery, Dawson City, Yukon at a future date. Due to Covid-19 concerns no service will be held.
