May 24, 1963 - September 6, 2019
On Friday, September 6, 2019, James 'Jim' Giczi passed away suddenly at the age of 56.
Jim was born on May 24, 1963 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Imre and Elaine (Doidge) Giczi.
On July 31, 1987 he married his beloved wife, Tanis Michelle Giczi. They were raising two sons, Zachary James and Alexander John Giczi.
On August 6, 1991 Jim was sworn in as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He proudly served for 28 years. Jim has previously been stationed in Regina, Saskatchewan, and Coquitlam and Fort Nelson, BC. He has spent the last 17 years serving the Yukon as a Forensic Identification Specialist.
Jim was always on the go. He has been an active member of the Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League as well as the Co-Ed Slo-Pitch league. If you were looking for Jim between 5:30 and 7:00 in the morning, you'd find him working out in the gym. He loved to share what he did for a living, giving presentations to countless high school classes, participating in the PARTY program, and presenting to other agencies in the territory. Jim's other passion was his motorcycle. He loved to head out on a nice day and go for a spin on 'his baby.' It is somehow fitting that he left our lives this way.
Jim will be remembered for the pride and joy he had for his sons. He would tell anyone that would listen what they were up to now, and show his most recent photos of them. He will also be remembered for his quick wit, his honesty and forthright demeanour and his willingness to help anyone. Perhaps most of all, Jim will be remembered for his shorts. He has left some wondering if he even owned a pair of pants.
Jim was predeceased by his mother Elaine. He is survived by his wife Tanis, their two children Zachary and Alexander, his father Imre Giczi, sisters Maria Giczi and Tina (Duane) Hamilton, along with nieces, great nieces, a great nephew, and several cousins.
The family of Sgt. Jim Giczi would like to invite family, friends, colleagues, neighbours and community members to a memorial service to honour and celebrate Jim's life on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2 pm, Vanier Catholic Secondary School, 16 Duke Road, Whitehorse, Yukon.
