It is with great sadness the family of Irene Maruk announces her passing at age 68.

The oldest of six children, Irene was born in Whitehorse to Bill and Margaret Maruk and was raised in Carcross and Whitehorse. She attended Whitehorse Elementary and FH Collins Secondary schools. As a young woman she worked as a legal secretary and before her retirement in 1990 with Yukon government and WCB.

Irene was very independent and in her younger days played ladies softball and enjoyed camping and fishing. She was an avid hockey fan and also loved to cook and bake. She had a generous spirit and was known for sharing meals and treats with her family, friends, neighbours and home support workers. She was always sending cards to remember every occasion.

Her family was her pride and joy. She will be missed by her children; Dora Merton (Ernie), Daphne Varga (Lee) and William Varga; and by her nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She also enjoyed visits from her granddog Winchester.

She is also survived by her loving brothers and sisters; Mike Maruk (Linda), Adele Mole (Barry), Len Maruk (Glynis), Pauli Gabb (Gregor) and their families; as well as by four aunts and numerous cousins.

Special thanks to her homecare support team and to Dr. Kmet, Dr. Stanford and the WGH Medical Ward nursing staff for their kind and compassionate care.

To honour Irene's wishes no service will be held, and she will be reunited with her parents and brother John in Carcross - a special place in her heart.
