May 26, 1948 - July 10,1951 ~
We want to first begin thanking our Creator, for putting the right people in our path, so we can find our long-lost sister and finally putting her to rest. She was never forgotten, she was someone who is loved, who is missed dearly, by her parents from the day she was taken to Edmonton, those many years ago. We never met, but her story was kept alive through our parents and older siblings.
We witness the pain, the grief, and sorrow our parents went through, especially in the month of July.
Our family, is forever grateful, for the amazing and caring individuals, who took on this huge task to help families like ours across Canada, to find lost love ones and put markers on them. We express our heartfelt, thank you and gratitude to 'The Office of the Independent Special Interlocutor for Missing Children and unmarked Graves and Burial Sites'.
Our appreciation to Kimberley Murrey and support person Laver Simard for their support, from the beginning of our search to the end. We would like to acknowledge our FN, Little Salmon Carmacks First Nations. For their support when went to Edmonton Alberta.
A year ago, we found our sister Hazel Annie Charlie after 72 years in an unmarked grave in St. Albert, Alberta. She was a patient at the Charles Campsell Indian Hospital for TB. She died at the hospital at a tender age of 3 years old. Our parents Big Salmon and Leda Charlie from LSCFN in Carmacks grieved for their young daughter, until they passed respectfully July 17, 1970 for our mother and September 23, 1971 for our dad.
Family members tried to locate her numerous times, with failed attempts. There was just too much red tape. What they found was huge monument with her name on it, but no burial location in St. Albert cemetery outskirts of Edmonton, Alberta. With the help from the organization, the St Albert's municipality has found the location of Hazel's burial site and they helped our family with the setting of the headstone. Our appreciation and gratefulness to them all.
We have laid a headstone for our sister Hazel Annie Charlie on the day she passed 72 years ago, in Edmonton, Alberta July 10th 2023. We want to share when did our ceremony, our sister Eileen Fields sang our dad's love song he made to our mom when working on the steamboats many years ago.
It was in the fall..one verse is says, 'when the leaves is falling I miss you my sweetheart' at that moment a dry leaf floated down on her gravesite. We knew we were not alone..our family was confirming their presence..May they all rest in peace..Mahsi Choo!!
The next step is to have a tea and light foods to honor the Wolf Clan, and young Wolf children. Because our sister passed as toddler, the Northern Tutchone way is not to have a full-fledged Potlatch. We will give to the opposite Clans, light lunch, gifts and honor for supporting our family. This will put closure for our parents, and other family members who went to Edmonton to try and locate her.
