January 9, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear friend, Gerry Mussgnug.
Gerry passed away peacefully Sunday, January 9, 2022, with his love Shirley by his side. Formerly of Ontario, Gerry spent the greater part of his adventurous life exploring the abundance of splendid beauty and magic of his beloved Yukon. Whether it was climbing mountains, blazing trails, paddling throughout our vast waterways and admiring our spectacular wildlife, you could be certain that Gerry's camera gear was packed and ready to capture his adventures.
Through his years of living in the Yukon, Gerry made wonderful lifelong friendships locally and abroad. Gerry had many photography friends that he enjoyed, as well as friends that he made at fuel and roadway rest stops along his travels. Gerry was always eager to share his interests and stories of his Yukon nature and wildlife adventures. All of this beauty captured with his keen eye through his camera lens. With each adventure behind him, Gerry was eager to begin planning his next great adventure.
Gerry will forever be remembered by the love of his life, Shirley; Gerry's loving Mom, Rita Mussgnug; Sisters, Caroline Holgate (Chris Klezok) and Gina Hillis (Garry Hillis); Nephews Justin Holgate, Bryce Hillis, Chadd Hillis (Ashley); Great niece Avery; his extended family; his long list of friends; and his City of Whitehorse Parks Crew of 25 years. Gerry was predeceased by his Dad, Gerhard Mussgnug; and his beloved canine companion Tera, who accompanied Gerry for 17 years of Yukon adventures. Throughout the years, Gerry also said farewell and grieved family and friends that left before him.
Thank you so much Gerry, for your kindness, your love of life, your love of adventure, your humor, your intellect, your helping hand, your loyal friendship, your love of chocolate and candies, your thunderous cheers for your beloved Maple Leafs, Team Germany, and the World Juniors win or lose! Thank you for capturing and sharing your love of the Yukon through your extensive photo collection. We will continue to admire your beautiful artistic work hanging from our walls.
Your Yukon will miss you as well as your family and friends left behind. Remembering you Gerry will be easy. With every sunrise, cascading mountain, pristine lakes & rivers, rain filled skies, rainbows, wildlife, flora & fauna, sun sets, shooting stars and lady Aurora dancing above.....we will love and remember you.
Peace and love Gerry, safe travels through your next life adventures & good luck at the poker tables!
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve in Gerry's memory in continued efforts of Yukon wildlife rehabilitation and preservation.
