Gerard was born in Reims, France. After completing his education he joined the French Military and served for several years during the Algerian War. Gerard emigrated to Canada in the early 1970's spending several years in Montreal before relocating to the Yukon in 1980. He was employed by the Yukon Liquor Corporation for 20 years.
Over the years Gerard was involved in the community as a member of Lions, Rotary, and a volunteer for Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous. He held memberships in the Royal Canadian Legion and Knights of Columbus.
Gerard suffered a stroke in January 2020 and never fully recovered. He died peacefully at Whistle Bend Place.
In France Gerard is survived by his sister Marie-Therese Guillier, brother Daniel Bocahut, and their families. In the Yukon he is remembered by his good friends Mike Stanock and Carel Alexander.
Sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Whistle Bend Place who provided care and compassion for Gerard during his last months.
