August 22, 1949 - December 10, 2018
Georgina "Georgie", was born in Brook's Brook, Yukon and spent her life growing up in Whitehorse. She was the daughter of Glen & Ella Rear, and has 9 siblings - Alex, Chuck, Louise, Jim, Bertie, Glenella, Maureen, Donna, Lynn. Georgina had five children; Victoria, Chris, Marlee, Jarrett and Mitchell. G'ma, as she was lovingly called, had five grandchildren; Cody, Sara, Jessalynn, Navarreaux, and Charlee. Her deep love of the Yukon saw her live life to the fullest in Whitehorse, seeing her dream come true with the construction of her home on Lake Lebarge in 2015.

Georgina had a passion for the outdoors, which led her to many adventures on the lakes, in the mountains and on the trails in the Yukon. She loved hiking, boating the rivers and camping with family and friends. This passion for the outdoors resulted in a role with Parks Canada, serving in the Yukon and Nova Scotia, which she was extremely proud of. In addition, she regularly volunteered for events such as the Yukon Quest, Yukon River Quest, Kluane Chilkat Bike Relay - she loved community events!

Growing up on Black Street in Whitehorse, she developed her strong sense of family, having a fierce love for those she cared about. She came from a large family, with many still located throughout the Yukon. She also extended that 'love of family' to those friends she considered family, always there to love and support. This importance of family saw her complete her final project - a bench installed at the top of Black Street in memory of the Rear family.

Although her cancer diagnosis in 2015 was a blow, she fought hard and repeatedly said to everyone "I'm living with cancer". Her positive attitude and enduring strength saw her focus on those she loved, spending precious time with everyone important in her life. She will be forever remembered by her infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor. As she said to us on that final day, "I'm off to my next great adventure!"

A heartfelt thank you to doctor's Robin Jamieson, Sally Macdonald, cancer care coordinator Brit, chemo suite nurses Ashley, Alexia, surgical nurses Kathleen, Carolynn, Jennifer, and all of the Whitehorse General Hospital staff who provided such amazing care & support.
