November 23, 1922 - November 23, 2020
Evelyn Neave passed away peacefully at Copper Ridge Place on November 23, 2020 on her 98th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband Max and her son-in-law Frank Smith.
Evelyn was loved and will be dearly missed by her family; son David (Anna), daughter Heather, four grandchildren Lee (Joanne), Todd, Kerri (Aaron) and Erin and nine great grandchildren.
Evelyn loved the Yukon and lived life well, spending more than 55 years living in and contributing to the Whitehorse community. She particularly prized her volunteer work with the Girl Guides of Canada, spending many summers at the Marsh Lake Girl Guides Camp and at other summer camps across Canada where she inspired generations of girls and young women.
In her later years, Evelyn was a regular volunteer at the Whitehorse General Hospital. She spent hour after hour knitting blue and pink sweater sets and toques for newborn babies at the maternity ward. She was also an active member of the hospital auxiliary where she enjoyed visiting and chatting with patients. Evelyn was active in the Golden Age Society and was proud to be one of the eldest participants at the Senior Games where she competed in five-pin bowling. She was an ardent walker - and regardless of the season or the weather - often walked from her home in Riverdale to her church or to take care of errands "downtown". Evelyn cherished her family and loved to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sometimes with stories of growing up on a small farm in Ontario.
David and Heather wish to thank Dr. Sally MacDonald for the years of care she provided to our mother. In addition, we are especially grateful to the amazing health care workers and staff at Copper Ridge Place who provided our mother with amazing care as she struggled with dementia in her later years.
Finally, we thank Jo-Ann and Pat for their friendship with our mother. We know she treasured those friendships.
