Ernst Fritz Wohlfarth

Another beloved light of life, laughter and love has gone out of our lives.
The family of Ernst Fritz Wohlfarth is sad to announce his death on December 13, 2019, so soon after the light of his life Ilse's on October 28, 2019.
Ernst (better known as Ernie or Opa) was born on March 5, 1929 in Gaablau, Germany. To fulfill his dream of emigrating from there to start his own business, he got certified as a butcher/sausage-maker, as well as a commercial insulator. He married his lifetime sweetheart, Ilse (Elsie or Oma) Poehls on October 18, 1957 and in April 1959, they arrived in their new home - Whitehorse, Yukon. As dreamers and adventurous risk takers, they became Yukon business pioneers, founding The Deli in 1968. His sought-after sausage and other smoked delicacies touched the taste buds of many Yukoners and travelers from around the world.
Ernst relaxed from long work weeks by going on family drives in our beautiful Yukon on Sunday afternoons, and spending time with family and friends. He loved dancing and being a member of The Yukon Order of Pioneers. In his younger years, he enjoyed down-hill skiing and soccer; in his later years reading, cross country-skiing, a passion for growing fireweed and keeping the water barrels full at their community greenhouse. Ernst enjoyed travelling extensively, especially to his all-time favourite Hawaii.
He is fondly remembered and sadly missed by many, especially his extended family, including: his sisters Else Renz and Martha Dendorfer; his children: Ulrike Levins (Blake); Elke Weber (Dave); Karin Wohlfarth; Ralph Wohlfarth (Sandra); Doris Orr (Dave); 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

As a founding member of Trinity Lutheran Church, his passion for God and his church community kept him very active there until his dementia became too advanced.
