June 10, 1936 - August 8, 2021
Elsie Howie was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 10, 1936. Elsie passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on August 8, 2021 in Whitehorse, YT.
Elsie is predeceased by her husband Carl, son Raymond, parents Anna and Herman Wiebe, sisters Bertha and Doris, brother Herman, and daughter-in-law Jennie Howie.
Elsie will be lovingly remembered by her children Judy (Murray) Adams and David Howie of Whitehorse, YT, and Donald (Tricia) Howie of Laurel, Maryland, USA, grandchildren Wendy (Neil) Brun of Kamloops, BC, Aimee Adams (Adam Schick) of Edmonton, AB, Amanda (Keith) Price and Ben Howie of Whitehorse, YT, great grandchildren, Henry Brun and Aubrey Schick, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Elsie will also be lovingly remembered by her chosen daughter, Bonita Tarr.
Elsie was a wonderful mother to her children and was there for those who needed a mother in their life. She worked many jobs over the years, but the most rewarding was as a team driver with Carl, driving long haul trips throughout North America.
At 56, Elsie obtained her Class 1 driver's license and joined Carl on the road, driving and living together in a semi-truck for 10 years. In 2002, they moved back to Whitehorse to enjoy their retirement years.
Elsie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Legion for over 40 years. Throughout her lifetime she had a great love of music, playing piano and guitar, and singing with her family.
Elsie started colouring while living at Macaulay Lodge. She encouraged the Therapies Program to set up an art therapy colouring program for the residents and it continues today at Whistle Bend Place. Elsie loved sharing her colouring and always encouraged others in their artwork.
A Celebration of Life will be held in May, 2022. Elsie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
