September 29, 1932 - January 5, 2023
The family of Doris Mader is saddened to share the news of her passing on January 5, 2023.
Doris was born September 29, 1932 in Macklin, Saskatchewan, the third child of Nelson and Lucy Malloy.
She moved to Vancouver and married George Lance in 1952. Together, they raised four children, Denise, Barbara, Karen and Wayne in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
Doris was a full-time homemaker to her young children, later accepting a position as secretary at the Como Lake United Church where she was a beloved member of the congregation for many years, active in the United Church Women, the church choir, and contributing many hundreds of volunteer hours.
Doris found true love for a second time in her life with Jack Mader and was embraced by two adult stepsons Len and George and their families. Doris and Jack had wonderful years together traveling to Europe, New Zealand and Alaska, camping, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Doris moved to the Yukon in 2006 to be close to her extended family, living with her daughter Karen and son-in-law Martin.
She joined the Whitehorse United Church, forming many wonderful friendships among the congregation who embraced and welcomed her to the community.
Doris' grandchildren and great-grandchildren benefitted from her talent for knitting and needlepoint. She was a master at sewing creative children's clothes and costumes. To this day, her children and grandchildren enjoy her baking recipes.
Doris is survived by her four children, fourteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Whistle Bend Place for their extraordinary care of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Whitehorse United Church on Friday, January 13th at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Whistle Bend Place.
