October 18, 1956 - June 30, 2022
Curt was born on October 18, 1956 in Longview, Wa to Eileen and Clarence Rehfeldt. He spent his early years growing up in Kent, Wa.
As a young boy, Curt enjoyed playing sports but his love for the outdoors always took precedent. Curt spent a lot of time fishing in the Green River and at Lake Fenwick. He also hunted and trapped near the Smith Brothers Farm.
He once found a young injured hawk and spent endless hours nurturing it and training it until it was able to fly freely.
When Curt was a teenager he met and fell in love with his future bride. Curt enlisted in the US Army in 1974 and soon after married the love of his life, Rena. Curt and Rena welcomed their first daughter, Melinda and two years later completed their family with the arrival of Stephanie.
Curt was trained in the Army as a helicopter crew chief and was stationed at Fort Lewis Army Base in Tacoma, Wa. After being honourably discharged from the Army in 1980, Curt was trained as a heavy equipment mechanic at South Seattle Community College.
While raising his family, he worked at Totem Equipment in Seattle, Wa. Curt and Rena visited family in the Yukon starting in 1986. They would spend time going up the Liard River to the family's home cabin.
Finally, in 1997 they could not resist the calling to make The Yukon their forever home. Curt and Rena spent 3 years living at Little Jimmy Lake. During this time, Curt built a log home for he and Rena with the help and knowledge from his Uncle Freddie Hasselberg.
Together, Curt and Rena learned valuable skills of living off the land with the guidance of their Aunt Lil Edzerza and Uncle Freddie. Curt's dream to live in the bush was only made a reality by the support and love of Rena.
In 2000, Curt and Rena moved into a home in Watson Lake, Yukon and continued to live on the trapline during the winter months. Curt started working in Watson Lake as a heavy equipment mechanic and then became a valuable employee at Iyon Kechika, where he didn't have a bathroom.
Curt officially retired on January 31, 2022. Curt will be remembered as a dependable, humble man that was always willing to help those in need. He found fulfilment in honoring his native roots and cherished his friends and family.
Curt is preceded in death by his father Clarence Rehfeldt, Uncle Freddie Hasselberg, and Aunt Emma Morrison.
Curt is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Rena Rehfeldt, Mother Eileen Rehfeldt, children Melinda Rehfeldt, Stephanie (Craig) Williams, grandchildren Tyler, Mason, and Ryken Williams. Sister Terese (Mark) Thomas and Brother Dean (June) Rehfeldt, as well as many nieces.
