April 9, 1930 - February 16, 2020
Cora left with the birds peacefully on February 16, 2020. She was born in New Westminster, BC on April 9, 1930. In the 50's she travelled from BC to Skagway on the Princess Louise and worked for the summers at Bennett. On her trips into Carcross she met Moe Grant. In 1953, they were married and moved into Whitehorse to the 1901 house where she spent the next 67 years. Cora had two boys George and David who brought light to her eyes.
She always had something on the go, whether it was cutting wood, enjoying the mountains, building and repairing, or knitting. She always said if you can read you can do anything. Many people remember her by her sign, Old Stuff, Collectibles and Antiques. Collecting antiques was her hobby and not only was she proficient at restoring furniture, she was a talented artist.
She will be known for her gardens and the stories about everything in them. She cherished her cabin at Schwatka Lake where she spent many hours in her garden listening to and feeding the birds. February was her renewal winter month knowing the days were longer and the chickadees would be singing at her cabin. Cora was a very strong and resourceful woman who will be missed by many.
She is survived by her son George (Jane), grandchildren Odessa (Jason), Tina (Greg), Garrett (Alicia), Jen and great grandchildren Kael, Brielle, Jayla and Carson as well as her special niece Lore Lei. She was predeceased by her parents and her son David.
At Cora's request, there will be no service. 'Any rate', in her memory, please continue to grow flowers and feed the birds and remember "waste not want not".
The family extends special appreciation to the compassionate and caring staff at Continuing Care, Whitehorse General Hospital and Whistle Bend.
