It is with great sadness and heartbreak that the family of Carman Robert MacKay announce his sudden death on April 5th, 2021 at his home. Carman attended school in Inverness, Woodstock, New Brunswick and graduated from Yukon College in 1998. In his youth Carman was well known for his hockey skill.
As a young adult he worked with his friend Johnny in forestry. Carman worked in Yukon Continuing Care as a nursing home assistant. Carman was known to his coworkers and Residents as a humorous and kind person.
He loved his Yukon garden. He was always ready to lend a hand to his friends, especially Clarence or Brian. Carman cheered for the New York Rangers, long before they won the Stanley Cup in 1994. He loved harness racing, always going after a big payday. He owned several horses over the years. He enjoyed spending time with the family dogs, Junior and Blackout.
Carman was born March 10, 1964 in Inverness, to Mavis (Cummings) and the late Alex MacKay. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Rhyann (Jeancarlos), Dominican Republic and Darcey (Levi), Whitehorse and their mother, Tammy, Whitehorse. Grandchildren Jace and Emersyn.
Carman is also remembered by his siblings Keith, Lois, Lori, Kelly. Nieces and nephews Erica, Kyle, Dean, Lisa, Maria, Carl and Johnny. Grandnephew Jack. Grandniece Ellen. Special Cousin Ruth. Many friends in Whitehorse and Cape Breton. He was predeceased by his brother Kevin, grandmother Ruth Higgins MacKay.
The family wish to acknowledge the support given to Carman over the years by his Whitehorse friends, Tracy and Clarence Timmons, Cynthia and Brian Fraser. Cape Breton friends Alex Hartford, Fabian Walker. His neighbor and friend Lester Morgan of Port Hawkesbury.
A private family interment will occur at a later date. Donations in Carman's memory can be made to Inverness Raceway or a charity of your choice.
