March 12, 1988 - March 11, 2023
It is with immeasurable sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Ben. Benjamin James Symington was born on March 12th, 1988 in Whitehorse and passed away on March 11, 2023, one day short of his 35th birthday.
Ben was a son, brother, Dad, and grandson. Bens partner, Jen and his beautiful daughter Mira and step daughter Mackenzie meant the world to him. He loved sharing playtime, crafts, movies, swimming, beach time, food and the outdoors with them whenever he could.
Ben was a loving, gentle and thoughtful soul. Growing up he became a great fisherman, athlete, storyteller, outdoorsman, and adventurer with a wonderful crazy sense of humour that he shared with everyone. He loved inventing things and was a daredevil whether he was on his bike, in a canoe, or on his skiis. His favourite times were out camping, fishing, boating, and playing with his five brothers and sisters and Mom and Dad; we had such fun times all together. He always had a sparkle in his eye and wanted to have fun no matter what he was doing. He challenged himself and all of us to enjoy life, and make the most of each and everyday.
Bens happy place was on a bridge, in a boat, or on the shore of a lake or river fishing; which he became very good at. He always caught fish! On his last trip to the Tagish bridge he caught his limit of lake trout each day and shared them with the rest of the people fishing on the bridge that day and for the next ten days in a row. Jen and the girls were there too and he tried to ensure that his love of the sport became theirs too.
His life was not without struggles and he was always searching for the best life for himself and his family. He worked hard at what ever he chose to do and did it well. He was so proud when he became a Dad! He seemed a natural at fatherhood and wanted only the best for his family.
We will cherish our many memories of Ben's infectious smile and enthusiasm for life. Of his laugh, unwavering sense of humour, and deep regard for life, happiness, sharing and family and friends that meant so much to him.
In honour of Ben's life, the family would like you to think about the many positive things that Ben was and did and to honour him the next time you are out fishing in the beautiful Yukon wilderness.
A private service will be held for family and close friends at a future date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Yukon in his name.
Ben is survived by his parents, sisters, brothers, partner and daughters and so many other family members.
We will forever miss you and you will forever be in our hearts!
Our family will never be whole again Ben but we hope you are at peace now and without a worry or a care! We will cherish your family and share everything about you with your daughter as she grows up!
