Environment Canada is advising those living in Yukon communities south of Whitehorse that heavy snow is on the way throughout Monday, Dec. 2.

Snowfall totalling as much as 25 cm is expected for Carcross, Teslin, Swift River, Jade City and the South Klondike Highway, especially from Carcross to White Pass. Snow accumulation could range from 15 to 25 cm across this area over a 24-hour period.

Environment Canada warns that the snowfall accumulation could create challenging travel conditions including sudden bouts of near-zero visibility in the heavy snow. The forecaster states that the weather is being driven by a Pacific front; snow is expected to taper off as the front weakens in the evening.

Significantly less snow, about 10 cm, is expected to accumulate around Whitehorse.
