The Whitehorse RCMP detachment is investigating an assault with a weapon they say took place in the parking lot of the city's Superstore on the evening of July 10.

According to a July 11 notice from police, officers responded to a complaint of an assault with a weapon and encountered a man with non-life-threatening injuries who they assisted until emergency medical services arrived.

Follow up information from the RCMP detachment indicates that weapons used in the alleged attack were a rock and a knife. The scene was secured for the RCMP's Forensic Identification Services unit who gathered evidence. According to the Whitehorse RCMP's communications unit, this generally involves taking photos and measurements, collecting samples and seizing items relevant to the investigation.

According to the July 11 press release, 20-year-old David Arthur Richard Taylor, a Whitehorse resident, was identified by police, arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He faces two counts of assault with a weapon and one of uttering threats. Taylor was held for a court appearance.

The RCMP investigation is ongoing and police are seeking information via the detachment phone number 867-667-5555 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
