RCMP cruiser is seen on April 19, 2022. Police have made arrests involving a vehicle tied to "several" flights from police, according to Yukon RCMP.

The Yukon Crime Reduction Unit made arrests after the driver of a truck allegedly drove away from traffic stops and drove into a police vehicle to escape from officers. When it was eventually stopped, a gun was seized from the truck.

According to an RCMP press release, the vehicle was tied to “several” flights from police.

Per the release, on July 23 at about 8 p.m. at the Robert Service Campground, police saw two people using what they believed to be “illegal drugs” in a vehicle that previously fled from a police-initiated traffic stop. They suggested a third person may have been in the vehicle.

The release describes how when the male driver, who they identified as 35-year-old Joseph (Joey) Donald Allison, was outside the truck, police approached, turned on their emergency lights and blocked the vehicle.

That’s when police said Allison went back into the vehicle’s driver seat, turned on the truck and revved the engine. To prevent him from driving away, police said they smashed out the driver and passenger windows, told the driver he was under arrest and tried to get him out of the truck. Allison allegedly drove into the police cruiser, pushed past it and got away.

Police didn’t chase the truck, per the release.

On July 24 at about 6:30 p.m., Allison again allegedly tried to run away from police, this time on foot, when they arrested him after seeing the same truck stopped at a gas station on McIntyre Drive. Per the release, he struggled and resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.

The female passenger, 33-year-old Ashely Schultz, who tried to leave the truck during Allison’s arrest, was stopped and arrested, according to the release.

Police said they found a prohibited modified shotgun in the driver footwell of the vehicle.

“Police sustained minor injuries, and did not require medical attention,” reads the release.

Both Allison and Schultz are charged with possessing a prohibited weapon without a license and being an occupant in a motor vehicle, knowing there is a prohibited firearm, as noted in the release.

Allison is facing charges stemming from July 23 and 24 including: assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, breaching a probation order, possessing a prohibited firearm while prohibited, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police while driving a motor vehicle.

Schultz was charged with failing to stop for police while driving a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, possessing a prohibited firearm while prohibited and breaching a probation order.

Allison was in court on July 25, where he was remanded in custody. He’s scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 2.

Schultz also appeared in court on July 25. She was released on an order with conditions to report to a bail supervisor, have no contact with Allison and not to possess guns. Her next court date is Aug. 7.
