Beginning in 2010 there will be significant changes at the Yukon News. We will cease publishing a print edition on Mondays and will stop publishing weekly television listings. Instead, breaking news, weekend sports and a web-exclusive colour cartoon by award-winning cartoonist Wyatt Tremblay will be published to our website, www.yukon-news.com.

Yukon News owner and publisher Steve Robertson said, “The Monday edition, which we launched in 1996, never matched our thriving Wednesday and Friday editions. We added popular columns, great sports coverage by Tom Patrick and complete TV listings, but we couldn’t grow our readership enough to make it as desirable for advertisers as our other editions. We will redirect those resources into our Wednesday and Friday editions, making them better and even more useful for readers and advertisers alike.

“Newsprint is expensive and the web is virtually free. We’ve designed a tremendous website and we’re producing some great Monday content. Marrying the two seems natural. The internet age is evolving quickly, and publishing breaking news and sports on Monday allows us to sharpen our online presence and serve our community.”

Staff members were informed of these changes last week and are already planning improvements in all areas of the business.
