Yukon conservation officers are looking into a report about a suspected bison kill outside of hunting season, according to a notice on Facebook.
The notice posted by Yukon Conservation Officer Services notes that a truck pulling a single-axle trailer with a blue side by side was allegedly seen with a fresh bison head in the box of the side by side.
The truck reportedly came off Aishihik Road onto the Alaska Highway around 3:30 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 25.
It was heading towards Whitehorse, per the notice.
The truck is described in the notice as a newer white Chevrolet pickup with a grey camper.
According to the Yukon government website, bison were brought back to the Yukon in the late 1980s through a national program to recover endangered species.
The website indicates that hunting season dates vary by game management subzone and area, and if the yearly limit is reached, then bison season will close.
The Conservation Officer Services Branch confirmed bison hunting is illegal in August.
More information about bison hunting can be found on the Yukon government website or in the hunting regulations. Information about the alleged incident can be submitted to the TIPP line at 1-800-661-0525 or online.
