A wildland fire near Wolf Creek is now under control, per wildfire information officer Haley Ritchie.
According to Ritchie, both the Whitehorse Fire Department and the Yukon Wildland Fire Management crews were on the scene responding to the fire, reported on the Yukon Wildfire Hub to be located near 40 Dawson Road.
Whitehorse Fire crews have since left the site, Ritchie said.
"Our crew's just on site doing a once-over. If there's something like this, they are very careful to make sure it's fully extinguished, so now it's under control, and they're just kind of doing their final checks," she said.
City of Whitehorse spokesperson Matthew Cameron told the News crews responded to a call about an active wildfire along Dawson Road this afternoon.
"When crews arrived on scene, an adjacent property owner was tending to the fire with a pump and hose," Cameron said via text. "Thanks to the fast response of the property owner, the fire was then quickly extinguished by crews."
He said residents, especially in country-residential areas, should be vigilant about wildfire activity.
Ritchie told the News the fire was small but was unable to confirm its exact size of the fire at the time of interview. She also said the cause of the fire is not known at this time. She said there is no threat to public safety.
Another fire is burning outside of Dawson City, and is currently 80 hectares in size. It is also classified as out of control while Wildland Fire provides a full response. That fire was reported on June 15, and is lightning-caused.
