Whitehorse RCMP have laid criminal charges against the driver of a vehicle that allegedly struck, injured and sent a pedestrian to hospital in February.

The collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian took place on Second Avenue near Ogilvie Street in downtown Whitehorse prior to a call to police at 9:10 a.m. on Feb. 13. RCMP had asked witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

A 51-year-old Whitehorse resident has been charged with “criminal negligence causing bodily harm” and “dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm” under Canada’s Criminal Code, as noted in the release.

Additional offences against the driver listed in the release under the Yukon Motor Vehicle Act include driving at an unreasonable speed and driving without due care and attention.

The driver was scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 28 and has an upcoming court appearance on Sept. 11 at 9:30 a.m.

Police decline to provide further information about this investigation as the matter goes through the court.
