Beware of scams masquerading as charity groups for earthquake-ravaged Haiti, say police.

A rash of phony donors have appeared in the United States, prompting a fraud warning from the FBI.

“(The scams) will trickle out over time,” said RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Don Rogers.

No on has reported any Haiti-related fraud schemes operating in the Yukon, he added.

Fake internet ads professing to funnel money to Haiti have been reported by police organizations.

The RCMP advise anyone interested in making donations to stick with established donors like the Canadian Red Cross.

People should be wary of names that sound similar to well-known organizations.

Donors should also ask for the tax number of the organization.

Their legitimacy can be quickly established by contacting the Canada Revenue Agency at 1-800-267-2384.
