Haven’t received your voter information card yet? You’re not alone but Elections Canda says you shouldn't be concerned.

In a notice posted April 8, the agency said that registered voters should receive their voter information card by mail by April 11. However, in response to an inquiry from the News, Elections Canada said that some areas, like Nunavut, are experiencing delays in getting voter information cards to people before advance voting begins this week.

The delays are due to challenges in securing polling sites in certain communities, said Diane Benson, a spokesperson for the agency. Returning officers cannot sign leases until elections are underway, said the spokesperson, and many communities either don’t have buildings for lease at this time, or buildings may not meet accessibility standards.

Of course, there are also ridings where mail delivery takes longer, said Benson.

Benson said that the Yukon is not one of the ridings experiencing delays, and that Yukoners should expect to receive their voter information cards in the next few days. The Yukon is not one of the ridings experiencing challenges with confirming poll locations or where mail delivery is generally longer, either, she said.

However, she noted that voter information cards are not needed in order to cast a vote: you can consult elections.ca, which will provide you with your voting location based on your postal code. You can also call your local returning officer or Elections Canada’s toll-free number.

If you're not yet registered to vote, you can do so online at elections.ca

Benson said that every household in Canada will also be receiving a guide to the federal election this week, which should provide information needed regarding the voting process, but the guide will not provide information on voting locations.
