Yukon government plans to double the amount of money it spends on preventing violence against women, to $200,000 from $100,000.

Money from the Prevention of Violence Against Aboriginal Women Fund flows to various First Nations community projects.

Aboriginal women are abused by their spouses at rates three times that experienced by non-aboriginals, states a government news release.

The increase has yet to be approved by the legislature.
