The Yukon government's Highways and Public works department has announced a 10 kilometre-per-hour speed limit reduction on the bridge that spans the Takhini River on the North Klondike Highway.

It was announced on Feb. 11 that the speed limit is now 70 km/h down from from 80 km/h.

The highways department pitches the speed limit reduction as a part of a wider effort to improve safety on the territory's highways.

The bridge has been called dangerous in past discussions around improving active transportation infrastructure in the area and there have been calls to widen or replace it.
