Parts of Kusawa Lake Territorial Campground remain closed today as a precaution after heavy rains over the last few days.

Loops two and three are closed because of a high flood risk, according to Environment Yukon.

The area received about 50 millimetres of rain from Wednesday to Friday and another 30 millimetres over the weekend, said Eric Schroff, director of Yukon Parks.

The campground is located off the Alaska Highway, between Whitehorse and Haines Junction.

So far, the worrisome creek in the area has not flooded. The closure is a precautionary measure.

Loop one, and its 26 campsites, is still open.

As long as there is no more rain, the entire area is expected to be open by Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Grizzly Lake backcountry campsites in Tombstone Territorial Park have been closed for the season.

There is currently approximately eight to 10 inches of snow in the area, Schroff said.

The trail is still open, but a travel advisory has been issued.
