RCMP, the fire marshal and the Yukon’s coroner’s service are investigating after a body was found inside a burned-down home this weekend.

On Saturday at around 10:30 p.m the Dawson City fire department responded to a burning trailer in Sunnydale, west of the city.

While working to extinguish the fire, human remains were found inside.

Few details are being released at this point. As of Tuesday afternoon, chief coroner Kirsten Macdonald said she didn’t have any information on who was inside the home.

Fire Marshal Dennis Berry said this morning that two deputies from his office are on the scene conducting the investigation. Berry said the body has been flown out for an autopsy and that the RCMP has called in extra officers to help with the case.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
