Police investigate gunfire in Whitehorse's Riverdale neighbourhood

Police say the victim was a teenage boy who suffered non-life threatening injuries

The Whitehorse RCMP is investigating gunfire in the Yukon capital’s Riverdale neighbourhood that left one person injured on the evening of April 27.

An RCMP notice issued around 1 p.m. on April 28 describes the person's injuries as non-life threatening. In an update by email to the News on April 29, police said the victim was a teenage boy.

The incident left a part of Selkirk Street behind crime scene tape as police investigated. According to RCMP they are gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses. 

RCMP vehicles could be seen in the vicinity of buildings at the corner or Nisutlin Drive and Selkirk Street at around 9:20 p.m. on April 27.

“Police are seeking the public’s assistance. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, heard anything unusual, or noticed any suspicious activity in the area is urged to come forward,” the RCMP notice reads. 

“Additionally, if you have dash cam footage, home surveillance, or doorbell camera recordings from the vicinity around the time of the incident, investigators would like to review that material.”

Anyone with information or relevant video footage can contact the RCMP at 867-667-5555 or pass information anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
