Two officers were attacked while making an arrest at Jake’s Corner on Thursday afternoon.

Whitehorse RCMP received two complaints of a man jumping out at vehicles and acting in a strange manner near Marsh Lake.

Police patrolled the area, but couldn’t find the man.

Later, another complaint was received, this time from Jake’s Corner.

A man was asked to leave and, instead, began insulting a gas station employee.

When police arrived, the man immediately began shouting at the officers and ran toward their car.

He was told to stop and was told he was under arrest, but as the officers approached him he became violent.

The man charged a female officer and punched her a number of times.

A taser was used, but had no effect on the man.

The second officer began using his baton and a violent struggle ensued.

The man was finally subdued and arrested.

Both officers and the man were injured in the assault. All were treated at Whitehorse General Hospital.

Later, the two officers returned to duty and the suspect was locked up in a RCMP cell.

Robert John Brown was charged with assaulting a peace officer, assault causing bodily harm, attempting to disarm a police officer and resisting arrest.

At the time of the arrest, the 22-year-old Whitehorse man had warrants for his arrest for assault, theft and failing to appear in court.

Brown remained in custody over the weekend and appeared in court today.
