Planned outage along Dempster Highway and parts of Yukon will affect 911 service

The Yukon government is advising residents of communities across the central and northern part of the territory, as well as the N.W.T. communities along the Dempster Highway, that their 911 emergency calls may not go through later this week. 

Yukon Protective Services is advising that between midnight and 5 a.m. on July 4, Northwestel is conducting critical maintenance that will make all telecommunications services, including emergency calls, inoperable for a few hours. 

Affected communities will be: Carmacks, Pelly Crossing, Stewart Crossing, Mayo, Keno, Dawson City, Eagle Plains, Fort McPherson,Tsiigehtchic, Inuvik, Faro and Ross River.

Per Yukon Protective Services, the RCMP will be stepping up proactive patrols and will be available at the local detachments to help people in need.
